Super-Ellipse™ dining table – B611 (135×90 cm)
The Superellipse™ tables are available in various sizes and with a tabletop made of either Fenix laminate or clear lacquered walnut veneer. While laminate versions come with an aluminium edge, the walnut veneer versions come with a natural wooden edge. The table’s iconic span legs are available either in chromed or powder coated steel.
The table series includes the Super-Ellipse™, the Super-Circular™, circular, square and rectangular tables designed by Piet Hein, Bruno Mathsson, and Arne Jacobsen. The most prominent member of the series, the Super-Ellipse table, was inspired by the designer Piet Hein’s solution to a traffic problem at Sergels Torg in Stockholm: A super elliptical roundabout. The ingenious shape was conceived in his mathematical mind.
Inspired by Piet Hein’s elliptical roundabout at Sergels Torg, a central public square in Stockholm, Sweden, the ingenious new elliptical table – the product of Hein’s mathematical mind – proved surprisingly harmonious in appearance, no matter the table size. The design’s lack of ends gave the ensuing Table Series a democratic profile, providing everyone around the table an “equal” position. For nearly fifty years, the Table Series has upheld its reputation as an essential, modern design solution.
Fritz Hansen has revitalised the Table Series™, which began with the 1969 Super-Ellipse™ table designed by Piet Hein, Bruno Mathsson and Arne Jacobsen, with an enhanced, nanotechnology-based laminate tabletop. The low-reflective laminate creates a beautiful matte surface that is highly scratch resistant and easy to clean.
